Five mannequins adorned with the most current styles in the clothing industry stand tall upon a podium located at the front of Forever 21 in the Holyoke Mall. Each mannequin, silver in skin tone, is postured in such a way that suggests confidence and beauty. I notice that each model is drenched in bold, contrasting colors such as royal blue, burnt orange, maroon, and mustard yellow. I realize these are the popular colors of the season as I look around the rest of the room and see that all the merchandise are related in color.

Zooey Deschael is a fun and modern "New Girl"

Trying to impress her boyfriend Spencer, Jess, played by Zooey Deschanel, drives over to his house in a cab wearing nothing but a coat. When she arrives at his home, she drops the coat, grabs a pillow and sings “I’m doing sexy things with a pillow,” knocks a plant over and continues to sing “I will pick that up later”, and yet she still manages to sing a made up song until she turns around to find another girl in her underwear standing with her boyfriend.
For Monday 10/3
1. Read "Is Google Making Us Stupid?" in OTHER WORDS p. 59.
Write a 1-page response in which you answer the question -- yes, no, maybe.
Make sure to make direct reference to the text (quotes, specific examples) in order to back up your opinion.
Also, beyond agreeing or disagreeing with Nicholas Carr, how would you "revise", "expand", or "apply" his arguments? For example, you might question things like what would Carr say about Facebook or Twitter? How would he react to Wikileaks, or the use of New Media to foment revolution in places like Egypt and Tunisia?

Review 2 / HW for week of Mon 9/26
Now that you've completed a first review, your job is to complete a second that improves upon your first.
For this review, you can review anything you want -- anything you feel that you are uniquely positioned to right a good review about -- whether it's a videogame you enjoy, an event you attend over the weekend (maybe the Big E) a website (the recent changes to Facebook), etc. Pick something you enjoy and that you already have some knowledge about.
Otherwise, the assignment is the same as for the first review.
Due Dates, etc:
*We'll be having individual conferences in ELY BESIDE SUBWAY Mon-Wed next week. (no class Mon or Wed)*
For your conference, bring the following:
1) complete draft of your second review AND a Review Plan (like you did for review 1)
2) if you review something that has already been reviewed elsewhere (a movie, for instance), I'd like you to do a little research. Find, print, and bring to the conference 1-3 of the best, most relevant news articles / reviews related to your topic. *You'll want to make sure your review is substantially different from whatever these articles say*
3) Read "Is Whole Foods Wholesome" p. 121 OTHER WORDS. Bring, to turn in, a short response / summary of the essay.
For Friday 9/30: Finished draft of Review 2 due. We'll meet in Computer Lab _____ (check back later for which one) that day to publish your reviews on a blog. Please consider including an original photograph to accompany one of your reviews -- you'll want to email the photo to yourself, or to me so that you can then upload it Friday.
