Length: Use the the NY Times articles as examples, approximately 500 – 600 words, MLA format

Due Date: Friday September 23

Goals:

1)       For students to analyze published reviews, locate the qualities that make for a well-written review, and apply those to their own writing

2)       For students to think critically about their surroundings

3)       For students to practice descriptive and persuasive writing

4)       For student to work towards becoming “their own best editors” by revising their reviews on their own, and with the help of the class

Assignment:

Having read, analyzed, and discussed several reviews published in the New York Times, your task is to pick some aspect of campus life and writing an interesting, engaging review of it.

In class we will attempt to answer the question: What makes a good review (both in terms of its writing, and the work the writer does to produce this writing) Your job is to apply those things to your own writing.

*Keep in mind, this is the first of two reviews you will write. Think about what you learn in doing this first review so that you can apply those things to your second review.
