Zooey Deschael is a fun and modern "New Girl"

Trying to impress her boyfriend Spencer, Jess, played by Zooey Deschanel, drives over to his house in a cab wearing nothing but a coat. When she arrives at his home, she drops the coat, grabs a pillow and sings “I’m doing sexy things with a pillow,” knocks a plant over and continues to sing “I will pick that up later”, and yet she still manages to sing a made up song until she turns around to find another girl in her underwear standing with her boyfriend.

It comes to no surprise that “New Girl” had more viewers on its premier date than the popular show “Glee”. All it took was one episode for Deschanel’s fun and a little bit crazy personality to mesmerize the audience. The 31 year old actress has won the hearts of many with hit classics like “Elf”, “Failure to Launch”, “Yes Man”, and “(500) Days of Summer”.
Including other famous actors like Max Greenfield, Jake Johnson, Damon Wayans Jr., and Hannah Simone, “New Girl” is a story of three single attractive men now living with a lonely, broken hearted, not your average, but very attractive female. This of course leaves plenty of room for future romances between the characters even thought there does not seem to be any particular obvious sparks at this point in the story.
With her very distinctive voice and attitude, Deschanel has no problems standing out in the crowd. Although her appearance does sometimes resemble the newest pop singing sensation Katy Perry, her out of the ordinary personality is what tends to separate her from the rest. Her “I don’t care what other people think” outlook along with her sometimes nerdy goofball self portrayal, really allows the audience to connect and relate to her.
As she lies on the couch watching “Dirty Dancing” for the sixth or seventh time of the day, crying (and singing of course), the guys try to cheer her up by convincing her to go out with them to find a rebound to get over her ex. Jess then sings her own theme song of “she’s going out to find a rebound. Who’s that girl, It’s Jess!” When they all arrive at the bar, Jess is told how to act and what to say by her roommates to the men she wants to approach. She strikes out a few times, but eventually gets a man from the bar to ask her out on a date.
Date night comes around, and Jess dresses herself in overalls, saying that she was going for the sexy “farmers daughter” look. Her best friend Cece takes over and basically makes her wear the beautiful black dress that she was wearing because Jess left all of her clothes at her ex’s and is too afraid at this moment to go back to his home and get them.
Relating to both male and female viewers, “New Girl” is refreshingly different from most other shows on television. The three male roommates Schmidt, Nick and Coach, bring a lot of male humor into the mix with their constant struggle to adjust to living with an emotional female, where as Jess’s charm and goofiness is more than satisfying enough for the rest of the viewers.
After being stood up by her date, the men quickly run to Jess’s side and sing “Now I’ve had the time of my life” in the middle of a restaurant, not caring how stupid or embarrassing they may be, knowing that this may be the only thing to make her smile. They have formed this somewhat dysfunctional, but entertaining relationship in less than 30 minutes. “New Girl” captures the heart of its viewers with its charmingly realistic outlook on modern day male and female relationships.
